Truce, peace for just a day
A day, an ordinary day
to stop all killing, violence war
for just a day

Nations not killing nations,
sects not killing sects
Ideologies taking a rest
just for a day

You can kill again tomorrow
fight the fight again if you want
but for a complete spinning of the earth
we will stop killing each other

Rest, recover, have no fear,
live, love, repair your broken souls
You can return to what you do
hate tomorrow if you must

Tribe let the others rest
strike out not from your despair
put down the need to get ahead
give greed and death a day off

It’s not much, just a little day
we can do it all together
from distrust we can warily wait
for just a day

This is not a day to pray for peace
though prayer will happen in the silence
This is a day for action
I will not kill or fight today

Gang versus gang, clan versus clan
Husband, wife, believer or infidel
Even if you have no belief or creed
you know you can not act violently for one day

Join me in this day of truce
no one is asking you to love
just not strike out in anger
let the world know one small day

Brother strike not brother
Foe strike not foe
one day is all that’s asked
and you can make it so

We need not have a formal pledge
as individuals we can agree
from generals to world leaders
as human to human we can know peace

We have a day for all the earth
it started small and grew
We have holy days for all the faiths
leaders and countries have them too

If we can call a truce for just one day
if we can learn to let it go
If together we can see it’s possible
for just one day

No promises or expectations
we are human after all
but we do have power over our own actions
be they big or small

Give one day for a truce to ring
one day for peace to reign
twenty four hours not to kill
not to strike out or to maim

What a gift to all the people
to have one day of peace
to walk the earth without fear or dread
if only for one day

We can repeat it year by year
just one tiny little day
until the whole world perhaps can hear
the blessed sound of peace

Pick a day and tell a friend
let a movement pick up steam
One day a truce in all the world
that day can start a dream

For a day of peace can be a day without fear
and what a joy that’d be
For fear and violence are hand and glove
horrible to see

I believe, I hope, indeed I pray
for a global day of truce and peace
to stand next to foe and brother
and not reach out in hate

Just for a day, one little day
a beginning that would be
A day for hope to at last take root
spread across the world

Join me, join me I beseech
to start one day of peace
For now we’ll call it truce day
and it can start with me
